ABOUT ME

Hi, I’m Monica Hee Eun, a Korean-born, Danish-raised artist and tattooer based in Copenhagen.

My work mainly explores the raw, instinctive sides of human nature—desire, aggression, power, and pleasure. I’m also fascinated by our shadow, those hidden or rejected parts of ourselves that shape us just as much as what we openly embrace. Visually, I’m drawn to the tension between what’s primal and what’s refined, creating work that balances raw energy with a sense of delicacy and allure. My pieces often feature dark, female figures—personifying the primal and the shadow.

I work across various mediums, including acrylic painting, ink drawing, watercolor, linocut, ceramics, and skin (tattoos). My tattooing style is inspired by hand-painted ink painting, which I try to emulate with the needle, aiming to capture that fluid, organic quality.

Whether on skin or canvas, I love to find the beauty and power in the dark.

Thanks for being here—take a look around, and feel free to reach out! 🖤
